Hebert Family Farms

What's In A Name

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

You may have noticed a slight change to our social media accounts this past week. Although we are still Hebert Farms, we’ve also started to include Family in our title. It might seem like a small, insignificant change, but it really is a pretty important one.

Most farms throughout our country are still family farms. Research shows though, that consumers believe that just 47% of Illinois farms are family owned & 53% are corporations. The Illinois Farm Families Coalition is trying to change this myth. They are funding an ad, which will run during Sunday’s Superbowl: “We are the 96%.” “96% of all farms in Illinois are still owned & operated by families.” Families still remain central to our agricultural economy. “The more awareness we build about family farms, the more trust consumers will have in what we do. And that’s good for the long-term sustainability of family farms.”

A family farm isn’t and can’t be run by just one or two members. It takes “all hands on deck” all of the time. I’m sure you’re familiar with the saying “Farming is not just a hobby, it is a way of life.” We live, eat & breathe the farm every single day, as a family. Every single member of our family contributes in some way, whether large or small. We make sacrifices and reap rewards together, as a family. And we help each other through good & bad times, as a family. That is why we thought it was time for our name to reflect just that. We are the 96%.
